Welcome to The AXIS Files

A short note on what The AXIS Files is, why I'm building this site, and what to expect from the dispatch in the months ahead.

A new file opens

If you’re here, you’ve probably read AXIS. Maybe you came in through a comp-title rabbit hole — Project Hail Mary led you to The Murderbot Diaries led you here. Maybe a friend sent you the link. Maybe you found me on Goodreads and clicked through. However you arrived: welcome.

This is the first post on the new home for The AXIS Files and everything else I’ll write under my own name. The site exists for a few reasons, and it’s worth saying them out loud.

Why a website at all

I’m an indie author writing science fiction novellas in a series I plan to take through five books. Amazon and Goodreads handle the discoverability layer well enough, but neither of them is mine. They can change their algorithms tomorrow. They can change their terms next quarter. The newsletter you sign up for here, and the writing you find here, lives on a domain I own — and on a list I can take with me if I ever need to.

That’s the practical reason. The selfish reason is that I want a place where readers who care about the worldbuilding — the canon, the unanswered questions about what AXIS actually is, the timeline of how Earth got where it is in Book 1 — can find that material without me having to dilute it for the casual reader on the back of a paperback.

What’s here now

Three things.

The AXIS Files — series page, with the long pitch, the comp titles, the influences I’ll cop to, and the reading order. Book 1 (AXIS) is on its own page with the back-cover copy and a buy link. Book 2 gets its own page when it’s ready to announce.

This dispatch — the blog, where I’ll post once a month or so. Behind-the-scenes notes on the series, recommendations, the occasional craft post, and announcements when there’s something to announce.

The newsletter — once a month, plain prose, no spam. The first thing you’ll get when you subscribe is a bonus story set in the AXIS universe — outside the main series timeline, exclusive to subscribers. (Working on it. Coming soon.)

What’s coming

Right now I’m finishing Book 2 — the voyage home from the events of Book 1, with consequences neither Tara nor AXIS saw coming. I’ll post here when it’s available for pre-order.

After Book 2: Books 3, 4, and 5 are mapped out, and I’m already drafting forward. The series is going somewhere specific — the ending of Book 5 is decided. Getting there is the work.

If you want to come along: the newsletter signup is at the bottom of this page, or on the dedicated newsletter page. Either way: thanks for being here. Let’s see how this goes.
