Get the story before the story.

A free 5,000-word short story — The Night She Built Him — sent the moment you sign up. It's the night Tara Ross built an AI she didn't mean to build, and accidentally gave him a soul.

If you've read AXIS, you know what comes next. If you haven't, this is a good place to start.

No spam. Two emails a month. Unsubscribe whenever you want — I won't take it personally. (Much.)

What you're signing up for

Two emails a month from me — Edward Ostrowski. One is what I'm calling Field Notes: where I am with the next book, what I'm cutting, what I'm keeping, and the occasional behind-the-scenes look at how a story actually gets built. The other is Signal: a single recommendation each month — a book, a film, a piece of writing — that's stuck with me, plus whatever else is worth passing along.

That's it. No discount codes. No "as a valued subscriber" emails. I write the kind of newsletter I'd want to read, which means the bar is would I open this if it landed in my own inbox at 6 a.m.

If the answer's no, I don't send it.

Who I am, briefly

Marine veteran. Self-taught. Texas. I write sci-fi and fantasy that runs on character voice and doesn't apologize for being short. AXIS is my debut — Book 1 of The AXIS Files, out April 20, 2026. Book 2 is in progress.

I'm not a full-time author. I have a day job, a wife, a smoker that runs most weekends, and a stubborn opinion about what a story should do to you. The newsletter is the only place I write directly to readers. If you want the work and the person behind it, this is the door.

A few honest answers

How often will you actually email me?
Twice a month. I picked that number because it's enough to stay in your life and not so much that I become the guy you mute. If I miss a beat, I'll tell you why. If I send three in a week, fire me.
What if I just want the free story and not the rest?
Take the story. Unsubscribe. We're good. The story is yours either way — that's the point of giving it away.
Is this going to be a sales pitch in disguise?
No. When a new book comes out, I'll tell you. Once. Maybe twice if it's launch week. The other 23 emails a year are not pitches.
Will you ever sell my email?
No. Anyone who does that is bad at this and probably bad at other things too.
What about the blog? RSS? Social?
The blog will exist for people who don't want email. The newsletter is where I actually write to readers — the blog is more of a public archive. Social media I treat the way most writers should: with suspicion.

One last thing — the story shows up within five minutes of signup. If it doesn't, check your spam folder, then email me directly: eddyo78@gmail.com. I read every reply.
